County Executive Joanie Mahoney and Mayor Matthew Driscoll announced today the details of the 2009 CNY Veterans Parade to be held at noon, Saturday, November 7 on Salina Street. This year’s parade will be a larger tribute to local veterans that includes more participants from community veterans and military organizations. Last year, it was great seeing the community turn out to offer support and acknowledgement of the sacrifices local veterans have made for their country. We’re counting on the Central New York Community to continue their show of gratitude and come to the parade to support local veterans this year.
The parade will include high school marching bands from Baldwinsville, Central Square, Cicero- North Syracuse, East Syracuse-Minoa, Henninger, Jordan Elbridge, Phoenix and Thousand Islands. It will also include the Syracuse Brigadiers, Syracuse Scottish Pipe Band and the Syracuse University Pride of the Orange, among other local marching bands.

The list of participants is growing to include active and reserve military units and more than 30 veterans organizations, including American Legions, VA Medical Center, and VFWs.

“The City of Syracuse is proud to be a sponsor of the 2009 Veterans Day Parade,” said Mayor Matthew J. Driscoll. “It is an honor to provide a forum in which every citizen can participate in showing our community’s support, respect and admiration for the men and women of our Armed Forces.”

The city has announced no charge for all meter spots located in downtown Syracuse for that day. Motorists are also welcome to park for free in the lot located on Washington and Clinton Streets (the Farmer's Market lot). The lot behind the old Kelly Coles on Erie Blvd. East will be designated for the Veterans in the parade to park for free.

The parade will begin at noon in Clinton Square and proceed down Salina Street to Harrison Street and end at the War Memorial.

“The annual Veteran’s Day Parade is a great opportunity for the whole community to come together to honor our Veterans,” said County Executive Joanie Mahoney. “Please join us November 7th to say thank you to all the men and women of our armed forces.”
