Both active and reserve military units and veterans organizations are the guests of honor marching in the parade. The growing list of participating military units and veterans’ organizations include the American Legions, VFW Posts, VA Medical Center, Eagle Association, Air Force and Army ROTC programs.

Participating local high school marching bands include Baldwinsville, Cicero-North Syracuse, East Syracuse Minoa, Henninger, Jordan Elbridge, Liverpool, and West Genesee as well as the SU Pride of the Orange Marching Band, Syracuse Highland Pipe Band, Syracuse Kiltie Pipe Band, Syracuse Scottish Pipe Band, and the Syracuse Brigadiers.

The parade will step off at noon in Clinton Square and proceeds down Salina Street to Harrison Street where it turns left and ends at State Street.

"The City of Syracuse is proud to be a sponsor of the 2008 Veterans Day Parade,” said Mayor Matthew J. Driscoll. “It’s important that we come together at events like this to demonstrate the deep respect and admiration we all have for our veterans. Their sacrifices and the service of men and women in uniform today protect us and allow us to live in freedom.”

"We remain forever grateful to our Veterans for their courage and their belief in protecting the fundamental freedoms our Democracy provides. This parade is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our local heroes and remember those who came before,” stated Joanie Mahoney, Onondaga County Executive.

"The Syracuse University Marching Band is very proud to take part in this great tribute to our veterans. We encourage everyone in the Central New York community to come out to show their support of our veterans and enjoy the performances of some of the finest bands in the northeast,” stated Justin Mertz, Syracuse University Director, Syracuse University Marching Band.

The parade committee is looking for more active and reserve military units and veterans organizations to include in the parade. The deadline for registration is October 3rd.
